Role with us: As joint CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and CIO (Chief Investment Officer), Haig has been with Tcam since its inception and is responsible for the management and development of our proprietary investment strategy and the positioning of the Tcam offering. Haig jointly led the MBO (management buyout) of Tcam in 2015 with Alex Montgomery, who have worked together for over 17 years. Based between London and Edinburgh, Haig leads a team whose independent investment views are regularly quoted across media outlets including the BBC, the FT, Bloomberg, Citywire and CNBC. Haig is also a regular guest speaker on BBC Radio Good Morning Scotland. A keen supporter of education in the finance industry, he also sits on the Investment Policy Committee for the CFA Society of the UK, and was previously Chairman of the Scottish CFA society.

Background: Haig joined Turcan Connell in 1997 as a Business Studies graduate from Heriot-Watt University. He went on to qualify as an investment manager in 2000 and has led the firm’s investment process since 2009.

Education: As well as his degree in Business, Haig holds a Masters degree in Investment Analysis from Stirling University and is a CFA® charterholder.

And at the weekends: As an avid fitness enthusiast, Haig can often be found in the gym or out running. He is a self-confessed petrol head with a lifelong passion for cars. Haig also loves to travel and will use any excuse to visit new places and experience new cultures. Finally, Haig is into technology in a big way and is always first to sample the latest gadgets.

Role with us: Alex is joint CEO (Chief Executive Officer), splitting his time between leadership responsibilities within the business and client-focused activities. Alex and fellow joint CEO, Haig Bathgate, have worked together for over 17 years. Alex and Haig were instrumental in the creation of Tcam in 2012 and led the MBO (management buyout) transaction in 2015 that established Tcam as an independent business.

Background: Alex began his professional career as a trainee lawyer in Edinburgh before spending two years with a stockbroker and then joining Turcan Connell’s investment team in 1999. He was a Partner of Turcan Connell from 2005 until the completion of the MBO in 2015. His broad training and background epitomises our commitment to building a deep and wide understanding of our clients’ circumstances and objectives. Alex has over 20 years of experience advising private clients on their financial affairs. He is a member of the Wealth Management Association’s CEO Forum and other professional bodies.

Education: Alex has a law degree from Edinburgh University and qualified as a solicitor in 1993 before deciding to alter the direction of his career towards wealth management. He is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. Alex also completed the Cranfield University Business Leaders Programme in 2012.

And at the weekends: Alex enjoys balancing city-based weekdays with active outdoor weekends with his family. He enjoys riding bicycles of all sorts and occasionally participates in events on and off road along with the growing herd of ‘MAMILs’. Alex is also afflicted with a love of cars, particularly old ones and competes regularly, mostly in his unexceptional but entertaining MGB V8.

Education: Stuart was educated at St. Andrews University and is a graduate of the Owner Management Programme from Harvard Business School.

Background: Originally qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Hugh joined Aberdeen Asset Management as its ninth employee in 1987. Working in both mergers and private equity he then became Head of Acquisitions, project managing purchases for the company including that of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.

Education: Hugh graduated from Aberdeen University with an Economics and Accounting degree.

Background: Duncan started his career in institutional fund management at Ivory & Sime in 1997. He managed UK equities and was deputy manager for Investors Capital Trust plc. Following a period in corporate finance, Duncan joined the investment team at Turcan Connell in 2006.

Education: Duncan has a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics from Heriot-Watt University and an MSc in Investment Analysis from the University of Stirling. Duncan became a CFA® charterholder in 2000.

And at the weekends: Duncan enjoys the outdoor life and especially hillwalking in the north of Scotland. He is a keen snowboarder although, having recently started a family, it may be a few years until he gets back on the slopes.

Background: Mark is a qualified Chartered Accountant who trained with Price Waterhouse in both Scotland and South Africa. He then worked as a Fund Manager with Scottish Widows running their flagship UK equity fund before becoming an Equity Analyst at Deutsche Bank where he ran part of the global equity business. Prior to joining Tcam, Mark was the Managing Director of Barclays Wealth in Scotland and Northern Ireland, responsible for over £4bn of AUM. Mark also sat on the Financial Services Advisory Board reporting to the First Minister, and now also sits as a non- Executive Director on the Board of two quoted Investment Trusts, a small start-up business and a mid-sized legal firm. In addition, Mark lectures on financial accounting at Edinburgh University.

Education: Mark holds an MA Honours degree from Aberdeen University in Accounting and Economics. He is a qualified CA and also holds the IIMR certificate.

And at the weekends: Mark is a keen sportsman and still enjoys throwing himself down hills either on skis or his mountain bike whenever possible. He occasionally plays cricket for the MCC and can be found golfing most weekends in the summer. Mark was a qualified South African game ranger in a previous life and has a passion for wildlife. This has led to him spending many of his holidays in Africa on photographic safaris. Mark is also a member of the magic circle and a collector of fine wines.

Background: Having joined Tcam in 2007 as a Trainee Investment Manager, Dennis has spent his time with the firm focussing on client service. He was promoted most recently to Investment Director in 2015. Prior to his time at Tcam, Dennis worked for the Bank of Scotland and Standard Life Investments.

Education: Dennis holds a Master of Science and a Master of Arts (Hons) degree from Heriot-Watt University in Information Technology and Business respectively. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, holding the CISI Diploma and Investment Management Certificate.

And at the weekends: Dennis likes to spend time outdoors, be that walking along the beach or working in the garden. Dennis also enjoys a day at the races.

Background: Having worked in London since the late 1990s, latterly with C Hoare & Co, Guy returned to Scotland in 2008. He joined Tcam in 2014 from Lloyds where he was the Regional Head (Scotland) for the Mayfair Private Banking business.

Education: Guy graduated from Aberdeen University with an Honours degree in Economics and Management. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK.

At the weekends: Guy can be found chasing his young children around the beaches of East Lothian. When time allows, he is known to slip away for a game of squash, a round of golf or a bike ride.

George spent seven years with Scottish Widows working within their marketing and sales division as well as four years with HSBC Actuaries and Consultants working with corporate clients and individuals.

Education: George is a Chartered Financial Planner and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography.

And at the weekends: George can be found seeking out new mountain bike trails if he is not driving his young family around Edinburgh to various sporting events!

Peter became a Senior Investment Associate in 2012. He manages client portfolios and mentors Trainee Investment Managers.

Background: Peter trained as a dealer on the London Metal Exchange, moving on to physical metal trading with countries as diverse as Singapore and Cuba. In 1979 he joined Murray Johnstone in Glasgow as an Investment manager, looking after pension funds, researching Asian, North American and UK equity markets and latterly setting up a managed investment service for their private client team. He repeated this for a brief spell in Gillespie Macandrew before joining Turcan Connell.

Education: Peter holds a BA Honours degree in Moderations and Literae Humaniores from Worcester College, Oxford. He is also a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

And at the weekends: A pen active manager of his smallholding close to Stirling, Peter is an enthusiastic supporter of Highland activities and is a steward of The Argyllshire Gathering.

Education: Sandra has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Kaunas Technology (Lithuania). She also holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and a CISI Diploma in Wealth Management.

At the weekends: Sandra enjoys an active lifestyle and can often be found lifting heavy weights at the gym. She recently discovered a passion for powerlifting and has already won second place at the GPC British National championships.

Prior to this Pauline worked for Standard Life and Bankers Trust.

Background: Before joining Tcam, Oliver spent a number of years working in Dubai as an Assistant Accountant for Cumberland International LLC. He gained valuable experience in project financing and cash flow management in the lead up to the merger with Hitachi Zosen in 2014.

Education: Oliver graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an Honours degree in Law, and went on to gain a postgraduate certificate in Finance from Heriot Watt University in Dubai. He is currently a CFA Level II candidate.

At the weekends: Oliver spent many years playing rugby for Watsonians and the Jebel Ali Dragons, but these days he prefers to watch from the comfort of the stands.

Background: Mark has worked in a variety of roles in financial services from support, to technical report writing and now advising clients. This has led to him developing strong technical skills and a desire to provide the best possible levels of client service. Mark started his career with a small independent firm in Edinburgh, then worked for a national advice firm, before moving to Tcam in 2015.

Education: Following the completion of his degree in Economics, Mark has been committed to studying for professional qualifications. He is a Chartered Financial Planner, Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and holds the STEP Certificate for Financial Services.

And at the weekends: Mark has his hands pretty much full helping to look after his young son and daughter. In a previous life he used to enjoy running combined with travelling and has completed five of the world’s major marathons, with only Tokyo remaining – maybe one day!

Background: Thomas is a qualified Solicitor having completed a legal traineeship with Turcan Connell. Thomas opted to pursue a career in investments having enjoyed a six month rotation with Tcam. He joined on a permanent basis in 2015 as an Investment Management Assistant and was promoted to Trainee Investment Manager in 2016.

Education: Thomas has a Law degree from the University of Aberdeen. Following his transition to investment management, Thomas has completed the CISI Investment Advice Diploma and is now working towards full Chartered Wealth Manager status.

And at the weekends: Thomas’s passions include food and travel having previously worked in the catering industry during his post-university travels. A sporting jack of all trades (master of none), Thomas enjoys tennis, football, golf, skiing and turning out for the Tcam Titans touch rugby team in the summer months.

Background: Harriet joined Tcam in 2016 in a front office support role, before moving to her current position as Trainee Investment Analyst later that year.

Education: Harriet graduated from the University of Strathclyde with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. She is currently a CFA Level I candidate.

At the weekends: Harriet has always had a keen interest in sports and still devotes some of her time to horse riding. She also enjoys skiing when the opportunity arises.

And at the weekends: Christy loves watching and playing a variety of sports. In her spare time she enjoys a game of tennis but surfing, windsurfing and paragliding featured prominently on her most recent holidays. Her favourite weekends are those playing sport, socialising, attending concerts and travelling with friends.

At the weekends: Sarah recently started a family so weekends are hectic but centre around long walks, trips to the Royal Botanic Gardens and the occasional visit to the cinema.

Role with us: Tracy manages the compliance team, responsible for the interpretation of regulations and the implementation of controls. Tracy also advises the board of directors and management team on compliance and risk matters.

Background: Tracy started her compliance career in London working initially at the regulator and then in investment banking. She moved to Edinburgh in 2007 and joined Turcan Connell as a Compliance Officer being promoted to manage the compliance team later that same year.

Education: Tracy has a Business Studies degree from the University of Hull and holds the CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance. She is currently studying for an Operational Risk qualification.

And at the weekend: Tracy can often be found out walking both in Edinburgh and further afield. She also enjoys visiting galleries and is a particular fan of Impressionism. In the evenings she is always looking for new and interesting restaurants where she enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Role with us: Eilish is the Senior Human Resources Manager at Tcam, responsible for the development and implementation of our People Strategy. She oversees the full suite of HR advisory services including resourcing, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and performance management. Eilish is passionate about employee engagement, organisational culture and talent management.

Background: Eilish worked for 14 years at Wood Mackenzie, a global Energy Research and Consulting firm based in Edinburgh. In addition to developing broad experience in UK Human Resources, Eilish also managed the APAC and EMEA HR teams, including secondments to Singapore and Australia. Her final role at the company was Strategic Business Partner to the Research division. Eilish took a sabbatical to realise a long-held ambition to complete a Masters degree, before joining Tcam in 2017.

Education: Eilish holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin. She completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources Management at Napier University. During a recent sabbatical, Eilish completed a Masters in Counselling Studies at Edinburgh University. An advocate for life-long learning, she is currently undertaking a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with the Centre of Therapy in Scotland.

At the weekends: A fitness fan, Eilish loves to run or go to the gym. She’s an avid supporter of Irish Rugby, but also cheers on Scotland from the Murrayfield stands. She enjoys socialising, and trying out new bars and restaurants. Eilish loves to travel and experience as much of the world as possible.

Background: After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Jim worked in housebuilding before moving to financial services. Prior to joining Tcam, Jim held the role of Finance Director at Sainsbury’s Bank and then Alliance Trust Savings.

Education: Jim graduated from Edinburgh University with an Honours degree in Psychology before changing career path and qualifying A.C.A with Price Waterhouse.

And at the weekends: Jim can usually be found watching rugby in all weathers at Myreside or Murrayfield. He is also a cricketer and lapsed Munro-bagger with ambition to complete the full set one day.

Background: Prior to joining Tcam Leeanne started her career at Merchant Bank before moving to the parent company Bank of Scotland. She later worked at Barclays Capital undertaking several roles in their newly formed KYC and Validation Data Static department.

Education: Leeanne holds the Diploma in Financial Services and the Investment Management Certificate.

At the weekends: Leeanne loves spending time with her family and can often be found in the viewing gallery cheering on her children at their swimming galas. Leeanne also enjoys trips to the theatre.

Background: Karen joined Tcam in 2007 having previously worked for Standard Life Bank and Australian Skandia. Initially working in Operations, Karen joined the Family Office team in 2009.

Education: Karen is currently working towards completing both the Certificate in Financial Planning and the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

At the weekends: Karen enjoys clay pigeon shooting and travelling to far-flung destinations as often as possible.

Background: Before deciding to pursue a career in wealth management, Chris studied to be a P.E. Teacher at university. He has five years of experience within the financial sector, previously working at RBS and Mearns & Company.

Education: Chris has a Bachelor's degree in Education Studies and holds the Regulated Diploma in Financial Planning. His Diploma marks were awarded top three in Edinburgh for 2015. Chris is currently working towards the Advanced Diploma.

And at the weekends: Chris will normally be playing some form of sport - usually rugby or golf. He is a mid-handicapper at golf and his former rugby clubs include Boroughmuir, Melrose and Murrayfield Wanderers. He also enjoys socialising with friends and family.

He has over five years’ experience within the financial sector, previously working as a relationship manager, building strong bonds with clients and industry professionals.

Education: Daniel graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2012 with a Master’s degree in Business Studies. He has since completed the Diploma in Financial Planning and Certificate in Discretionary Investment Management and is currently working towards Chartered status. His Diploma marks were awarded top three in the CII Edinburgh branch in 2016.

And at the weekends: Daniel is a keen hillwalker an enjoys munro-bagging and long walks exploring the countryside. He is a passionate football fan and regularly attends football matches to support his local team. He has recently become a father and enjoys spending time with his young son.

And at the weekends: Cree can be found being pulled off her feet by her over-sized Alaskan Malamute, skiing where the weather allows, and learning (nobody said successfully) how to speak Norwegian.

Background: Coming straight from university, William joined Tcam in 2016. During his time at university, he gained experience in the investment industry through internships with companies such as Murray Asset Management, Rathbones and Smith and Williamson.

Education: William has an MA (Hons) in Economics and Finance from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh and is currently working towards attaining his Investment Management Certificate.

And at the weekends: William likes to keep as active as possible and has recently revitalised his passion for competition by participating in various obstacle races around the UK and also entering local tennis and squash leagues in Edinburgh.

Background: Matthew joined Tcam in 2016, having previously worked for Core-Asset Consulting in Edinburgh as a Communications Associate. Prior to this, he spent a year in London as Product Development Coordinator for the car rental firm Avis Budget Group EMEA.

Education: Matthew holds an Honours degree in Management with Marketing from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

At the weekends: Outside of work, Matthew enjoys attending music festivals across Europe and recently attended Sónar in Barcelona. He also tries to squeeze in the occasional round of golf when he can (weather permitting!).
